Lisnagre Charolais Jim, Catherine & James Geoghegan

The famous Lisnagre Charolais herd which was established in 1996 by Jim & Catherine Geoghegan is renowned for their Pedigree Charolais herd throughout Ireland and beyond. They have produced many famous bulls over the years with champions of many shows and sales including bulls serving in A.I. Lisnagre Elite (LGL), Lisnagre Laurence and Lisnagre Handsome (HJZ) to name but a few. 2018 has been a very successful year for the Lisnagre herd, doing the double at the Pedigree Charolais Premier sale picking up the Senior and Junior male Champions.

The Lisnagre herd began working with Iomlán Animal Science in 2017. Iomlán have been providing Lisnagre and Jim with nutritional advice and products for his pedigree herd and bulls. The products used range from mineral products to a combination product Brabús which is a specialist product for pedigree cattle for bloom and thrive and is also used in pedigree high yielding dairy herds. Brabús is designed to protect animals from toxins in the feed, promote ruminal and intestinal health, boosts levels of vitamins and minerals, has essential plant oils which aid digestion, so animals canget the most from their feed and also acts as a buffer. Jim has recognised the thrive and weight gain since he started using Brabús and also he noted “the hair on the cattle is much healthier with a good bloom and it stays on them well after washing”.

Overall the Brabús improves the rumen and intestinal function and provides the cattle with trace elements and vitamins in particular Biotin and Zinc which are extremely important for skin condition, hair and hoof health, all of which are important in pedigree bulls and cattle in general. Brabús was designed for very productive animals and allows them to grow and/or milk to their very best potential without getting nutritional setbacks. Having bulls healthy and looking their best is an objective for all pedigree breeders and that is why Jim uses Brabús on his bulls. “It’s great to use a product and see it work” says Jim.

 Brabús and Iomlán Animal Science will continue to be part of my plans for the Lisnagre Charolais herd.
